Match Report
Are second report of the season comes from Rossington Main sitting bottom of the NCEL Div 1 against then 8th placed Staveley M.W who are near Chesterfield.
The journey to Rossington was indescribeable especially the Bawtry bit were we went round the roundabout to go back down the m180 to junction 1 !! Rossington was hoping to demolish the memory of there 6-1 reverse last week while Staveley were coming off a good 2-0 win in the league cup against Glasshoughton.
The game kicked off with Staveley in a sunny enviroment but there was a chill about. They started the first few moments better of the two teams keeping possesion and passing it around winning a few throw-ins. Rossington looked like they would struggle against Staveley but they held them back with the Visiting back 4 passing it amongst themselves. It wasnt long before the first hard tackle came in from Rossingtons Craig.
GOAL : ( 3 MINS) Rossington defence mix up and Jamie Smith slots the ball home from around 8 yards.
After the goal Staveley looked like they could score more then the 1 they were playing some good stuff and Rossington struggled they may of scored with there first shot but Staveleys second shot by Cluckton/Scott was sent flying over the crossbar.
Rossington hardly saw the ball in the open 10 - 15 minutes failing to get a string of passes together Staveleys midfielders kept on pressing and won a corner although some of thier players thought otherwise and wanted hand ball given there was a shot by the goalscorer Smith but it was easily saved by Barford in the Rossington goal. Staveley should of had a second a few minutes later but Marc Scotts 3 yard header ended up in the clouds and kicked back into play by me.
Rossington were still struggling and then the noise of the 15:15 to Edinburgh was known as it flew past the ground. Rossingtons first shot was ok but onlwent out for a goal kick.
Marc scott was warned for handball and a free kick was given to Rossington but that came to nothing and the visitors strung a few passes together and another header by Scott juss cleared top of the bar and ended up near carl which he threw back onto it. Staveleys attackers were doing there job well and they did have the ball in the net but it wasnt the goal it was the barrier stopping the ball going into the woodland behind the ground.
Jody Barford nearly gifted Staveley a goal but he caught it at the 2nd attempt.
Bryan Craig got the first booking of the match for Unsporting Behaviour, Paul Bradley did manage a shot for Rossa but it was easily caught by Armstrong in the away teams goal.
Rossington should of been down to 10 men after Wayne Baren appeared to elbow one of the players from Staveley but only a yellow card was given by the young ref. "best cross of the season" gets commented by the web man of rossa but it was still caught by the goalie. Shelton then made a crunching tackle but did win the ball.
Marc Smith wasted a good chance for Staveley just before the intervel and then just before the interval the Rossington Posse got there singing voices out for Paul Bradley even though the supporter should of been at the new den watching Millwall v Doncaster.
Staveley dominated the first half and were well worth there lead Rossington struggled and if they didnt improve another thrashing was on the cards.
Moments after the second half become the visitors were on the attack again and Wez Pierce had a gloriuos chance he missed when it would of been easier to put it in the net . The supporters were starting to get worried and the subjecof Paul Bradley came up as he has scored all but about 8 of the goals this season and he has 14 !! Conversation with Rossingtons star keeper Lee Appleby soon followed and he commented on why they were losing!
Rossington bought Moualli on for Nathan Fraser.
GOAL 57 MINS : Easy for Smith as he gets his second of the game from a tap in.
Rossington started to get the ball but wasnt going anywere forward with the ball.
GOAL 65 MINS : A third for Staveley after a belter from Liam o Brien 3- 0
Staveley were looking for more and the next two shots ended up with the ball leaving the stadium.
Rossington made another change with Graham Doel coming on for Bryan Robinson.
Then things turned aggresive with Bryan Craig of Rossington shown a red card after reacting to a tackle from behind and then out of the blue a local came out with a shoval and asked the coach " to smack the ref with this"
The last few minutes the game died down Staveley knew they had the points and Barford had two crosses which could only be described as catching practise.
Rossington are struggling with a goal difference of - 29 and staveley have moved up to fifth in the league with a good win.
